Paradise Valley: what to expect on the day trip

An hour inland from Taghazout, the Tamraght river cuts a gorge through the Atlas foothills into a series of freshwater pools. Here is how the day runs.

Paradise Valley is included in every one of our packages, and it is the day most guests talk about afterwards.

We leave after breakfast and drive about an hour inland, climbing out of the argan groves into the foothills of the High Atlas. The road ends at a car park, and from there it is a twenty-minute walk down into the gorge.

The river has carved a run of deep, cold, startlingly clear pools out of the rock. You can swim in all of them, and jump into a few from the ledges above — the guides will show you which ones are deep enough.

We eat lunch at a small riverside place, then walk back up in the afternoon and are home in time for sunset on the terrace. Bring swimwear, a towel, shoes you can walk in, and sunscreen.
